Age: 27
Number of years reporting: Five years as a reporter

Interests: I really like readin,’ ‘riting and railin’ against the status quo. I am also a fan of bluegrass and hip-hop music and enjoy their common ancestry to the blues.
Professional, civic organizations you are a member of: Although I am currently not a member of any groups or civic association, while in New York City I was part of Brooklyn's Cash/Hank Hootenanny-Jamboree chapter of the Classic Country and Tequila Preservation Society.
Why do you love your job? I first got into journalism so that I could tell women with a straight face that I am a writer (it seemed to work really well for Jim Carroll and Hunter S. Thompson). I have since learned that there is little in this line of work to smirk about, nor is it something that woos many women. However, it does put me in a similar circle as people like A.J. Liebling, George Plimpton, and Tom Dammann- although many, many notches below them. I also enjoy the fact that once I bring up my profession at a bar or restaurant, I am afforded the opportunity to write-off the evening's bill as a 'business expense.’
What makes Northern Michigan a great place to live? Northern Michigan has some of the most scenic driving terrain. Whether trilliums cover the forest floor in the spring or the barren trees provide a wide open view to a nearby lake, the panorama of natural beauty around here never ceases to amaze me.
