When the wind’s whipping and temperatures dip down dangerously low, indoor activities become just what nature ordered. Here’s a look at some of the fun to be had in the great indoors.

Bowling, arcades and mini-golf

Northern Lights RecNorthern Lights Recreation on M-119 in Harbor Springs offers family fun in more than just its 16-lane bowling alley. In the same complex is an 18-hole miniature golf course, billiards and an arcade.

The Sassy Loon restaurant inside features lunch and dinner seven days a week, and weekend entertainment by bands. Glow bowling is Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit or call (231) 347-3100.

Indoor waterpark

Snow doesn’t stop the in-water action at Avalanche Bay Indoor Waterpark at Boyne Mountain resort in Boyne Falls. At 88,000 square feet, Avalanche Bay is the biggest indoor water park in the state. It offers a surf simulator, slides and rides, kids pools and a lazy river, along with climbing walls, two eateries and a multi-level arcade with more than 100 games. The arts

The arts don’t become less vibrant in the winter; in fact, they seem to come to life.

Galleries have walls filled with the works from artists near and far. Many communities also have art centers, which in addition to exhibits and displays feature classes and workshops to learn or perfect skills.
